Introduction to Malaria
Malaria is a neglected
infections disease claiming over 453,000 children, 90% of which are from Africa.
An infected female Anopheles
mosquito obtains blood meal from humans, and spontaneously deposits the malaria parasite
into the bloodstream. Plasmodium falciparum is
the deadliest protozoan single-celled pathogen causing human malaria through its complex life cycle.
The parasite grows and multiplies as it travels from the blood stream
into the liver and back into the red blood cells.
After 48-72 hrs, the parasite bursts releasing more parasites (merozoites). This triggers malaria symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea
shivering and shaking, muscle aches e.t.c
